Winter in Hurghada: 3-Month Cost of Living Breakdown
What does a winter in Hurghada really cost? A month-by-month budget in GBP, EUR and USD, plus visa, weather and rent-versus-buy tips.
Picture this: it's a grey Tuesday in November, the rain is going sideways, and your boiler has just made a noise like a dying walrus. Now picture the same Tuesday on a sunny balcony in Hurghada, coffee in hand, 23°C and not a cloud in sight. The big question is whether you can actually afford the second version. Spoiler: probably, and for less than you think.
Why Hurghada in winter?
Because the weather simply behaves itself. According to WeatherSpark's climate data, daytime highs hover around 22-23°C from December to February, nights dip to a cosy 13-14°C, and rain is a rumour (January averages about 0.3 rainy days). The sea sits at roughly 22-24°C, so a swim is bracing rather than brutal. Getting there takes about four to five hours from most of Europe, which is less time than some people spend on the M25.
The 3-month budget, line by line
We've built this from Numbeo's Hurghada prices (updated 2 October 2026, based on 165 entries over the past year) and converted at mid-market rates of roughly 1 EGP = £0.0144 / €0.0170 / $0.0191. Two styles: "Cosy local" (a one-bed flat outside the centre) and "Comfortable" (a one-bed flat in the centre).

That's three whole months of sunshine for roughly what a fortnight in a mid-range Alpine ski chalet costs. A cappuccino is about E£104 (around £1.50), so your flat white habit won't bankrupt you either. One honest caveat: Numbeo averages reflect local lets, and short furnished seasonal rentals aimed at holidaymakers can run higher, especially in January. Browse long-term rentals in Hurghada for real asking prices before you fix your budget.
Visa: the boring bit that matters
Unlike Sharm el-Sheikh's free 15-day stamp, Hurghada needs a proper visa. As TripProf's 2026 fee round-up reports, a single-entry e-visa now costs $30 (about £22) and gives you 30 days. You can apply through the official portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg. A three-month stay means you'll need to sort an extension locally (or a multiple-entry option, around $65), so check the current process on the official portal before you fly.
Rent for the season or buy a flat?
If this is a one-off experiment, rent. Simple. But if you're already muttering "same again next year?" into your tea, it's worth running the numbers on owning. A flat you use for three months and let out the rest of the year starts to look very different on a spreadsheet, and you stop paying someone else's mortgage. Have a look at flats for sale in Hurghada or, if you fancy something with more of a resort feel, properties in Sahl Hasheesh.
Getting there
Direct flights run from the UK in about five hours, from Germany and Czechia in roughly four and a half, and from northern Italy in around four. Cheaper than a skiing weekend, and nobody makes you wear a helmet.
Your move
Winter is coming either way. You just get to choose where you spend it. Browse our Hurghada rentals, pick a flat with a balcony, and book November's grey skies off your calendar for good.
